Why a Resource Center?

A Place to Meet
In our area, the number of homeschooling families has multiplied in recent years, with more families looking to homeschooling every year. Many groups have been formed here, but one of the biggest challenges for these groups has been the lack of a place to meet.

Some groups are meeting out of doors (as the weather permits), some are driving to neighboring cities, and some are currently small enough to meet in houses - but growing. Most of the buildings that would be a good fit for homeschool groups (church buildings, community centers, city buildings, etc.) are currently unavailable to homeschool groups due to factors such as scheduling conflicts/buildings already being used, insufficient room numbers/sizes, prohibitive costs, unwillingness to take on homeschool groups due to liability concerns.
  • We will help meet the need for a gathering place with a facility dedicated to use by homeschool families.
Curriculum, Tools, and Teachers
Homeschool families often need resources (curriculum and tools) that the local libraries do not offer. Buying each of these resources for each individual family is expensive in a situation where many families are already paying more than those who choose public school.

Many homeschool families also reach a point where they need outside help in certain areas of their children's education due to a lack of expertise or differing interests, however they want to ensure that those mentoring their children are in line with their family's educational philosophy.
  • We will pool resources to provide a library of curriculum and tools that families can utilize.
  • We will provide classes taught by mentors who understand and respect homeschooler's educational philosophies.
A Place to Start
New homeschoolers are often unsure of where to start and how to find support. Many parents who like the idea of homeschooling feel that they are unqualified or have reservations due to misconceptions about homeschooling.
  • We will provide a place for new families to turn in finding mentors and resources to empower them to become their child's best teacher, as well as raise awareness and understanding about homeschooling.
